Meet Erica Longstaff - Naturopath

Many Naturopaths come from a background in conventional medicine such as Nurses, Pharmacists and even Doctors; often a little later in life, once their own health is failing in some way.  That's me too.  I spent seven years in the Royal New Zealand Navy as a Medic.

Fast forward 20 years.  I'd been eating and drinking whatever I liked, in a stressful work environment and minimal exercise. I was living on pharmaceuticals.  I never knew how I'd feel from one day to the next.  Headaches, back & joint aches, fatigue, insomnia, mood swings and brain fog, to name a few.  I was in my mid-forties and realised something had to be done, or my later years were going to be very very uncomfortable; if I lasted until then.

I knew there had to be a better way.  I began to research and realised where my true passion lay 'natural medicine'.   I set in place a goal to become a Naturopath, basically a natural health & wellness consultant.

After searching for the best place in New Zealand to learn, I enrolled with the South Pacific College of Natural Medicine in Auckland.  They had a history dating over 40 years and met all the credentials to ensure I received a top-quality education.  I did a Bachelor of Natural Medicine and graduated after three years with a degree.  Quite chuffed I was too.

During my Bachelor of Natural Medicine training, I met some wonderful naturopathic practitioners, and under their guidance, I slowly worked on my own health.  For me this included cleaning up my diet, quitting most of my medicines, changing jobs and moving towns. I've never looked back and I love what I do.

Whilst completing my Naturopath studies, I worked for over 4 years, at a busy community pharmacy as a Pharmacy Assistant/Naturopath.   This role had me working alongside pharmacists and helped me understand the world of pharmacy, including polypharmacy (people on multiple pills) and over-the-counter medicines.  I got to see first-hand, how chronically sick many people are; and how modern medicine treats it.

Now I help clients find their optimal wellness by developing a deeper understanding of their nutrition and lifestyle choices, and how these may affect their health.

As a naturopathic practitioner, I aim to help you create balance in your life, prioritise your well-being and celebrate all aspects of your true self. By finding the NaturalFix website, the universe is telling you it’s now your time to nurture your body and soul, so call me.  We can have a chat.  Let's find out if I can help you.
