Perimenopause/Menopause
I get ideas for my Blogs and Facebook posts as I'm driving to work. I write amazing short, punchy and meaningful paragraphs of wisdom in my head. The words just flow out, like I'm some cultured, refined linguist, one of the top writers in the world. By the time I sit down to write them, it's gone, floating somewhere way, way back in the trash can of my brain. I remember vague words of wonder, but can barely string a sentence together, my rhythm gone. Is this one of my perimenopausal symptoms? I recently joined a Facebook page. A group of menopausal women sharing their experiences and others trying to offer help. The range of experiences is vast. I read some ladies' stories and I'm so sad for them. There's some real suffering out there. In many cases, they don't feel they can talk to anyone about them. They're embarrassed or have been told 'it's in their head'. So they suffer in silence, apologising before they write their post in case they are mocked or have the same old 'all women go through it' response. I'm here to say it's real. Menopausal symptoms suck for many, many women. Life becomes a living hell. Sleep issues, fatigue, weight gain, loss of libido, hot flashes, night sweats, headaches, migraines, joint and muscle aches and pains, frequent bladder infections, dry vaginas, acne, sore boobs, the list goes on and on. So what's the answer? I hope to tell you more in my next blog cause I've forgotten what I was going to say. Did I mention brain fog as one of the symptoms? Ok, I remember one thing. I would begin with bioavailable Magnesium. For me, it's step one. Magnesium Glycinate or similar magnesium. Don't bother with the cheaper Magnesium oxide or marine magnesium. High-dose Magnesium 300 - 600 mg per day in divided doses. The last dose is one hour before bed. Always run supplements past your Doctor to ensure there are no issues for you. More in my next post on women's hormones.
