What to look out for - Metabolic Syndrome
Have you heard of Metabolic Syndrome? A diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome is like a cattle prod to jolt you to address a serious issue that is brewing in your body because you will likely be in for some nasty health issues in the future (5-15 years) if not addressed without delay, such as Diabetes Type 2, Cardiovascular disease and even Cancer. You might get diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome if you have three or more of the following symptoms. 1. An Expanding Waistline: When your jeans start feeling a bit snug and you have excess fat around the waist. Often measured as a waist circumference greater than 100 cm in men or 90 cm in women. 2. Blood Pressure Boom: When your blood pressure feels like it's ready to burst, although you often don't have symptoms or they can be very subtle. Consistently high blood pressure readings of typically 130/85 mm Hg or higher. 3. Sweet Tooth Overdrive: Your blood sugar levels are on a rollercoaster. Always hungry or thirsty. Craving sweets or carbs. Increased fasting blood glucose levels, usually 5.5 mmol/L or more, indicate potential insulin resistance. 4. Triglyceride Tango: Your triglycerides are doing a wild dance, way above the healthy range like they’re at a high-energy party. Elevated levels of triglycerides in the blood, generally 1.69 mmol/L or higher. 5. Cholesterol Lowdown: Your HDL cholesterol is doing the Limbo, trying to slide under the “healthy” bar. Reduced levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, often less than 1.04 mmol/L in men and less than 1.30 mmol/L in women. 6. Fatigue Frenzy: You’re so tired you feel like you could win a gold medal in napping, even if you’re just on the couch. Persistent tiredness or low energy levels can be linked to elevated blood sugar or other metabolic imbalances. If you have any of these signs or symptoms, it's time for some Lab work to see what's happening inside your body. Don't wait for the Ambulance at the bottom of the hill. Take charge of your life, it's the only one you have. #naturopath #canterburynaturopath #naturalfix #metabolism #metabolichealth post description.
